Dr. Nora's Top Articles:

This week the news can be said to be “the usual,” but there are some that drew my attention in particular.  For example, #3, sexual abuse by a pediatrician; #s 12, 25, and 27 murder by family and caregivers.

PLEASE NOTE AN ERROR in numbering, there are two #23’s!  Woops.

Under the “variety” section, #6 describes the release of personal information of thousands of Floridians with disabilities…alert to get Lifelock or some other protection.  #15 is the loss of social security payments due to the illegal acts of an attorney specializing in getting SSI applications approved.  #19 describes how a convicted sex offender was able to get his psychology license by lying about past convictions on his application, and rose to serve as President of his state chapter of the National Association of Forensic Counselors!! Really this is a great lesson in doing FEDERAL background checks of anyone serving your loved one.  Finally, #23 reveals that companies providing hospital-based psychiatric services billed for services not provided, wasting millions in federal funding.

There’s some good news, too!  Check out #59, that describes how the state of Mississippi is moving to regulate seclusion and restraint practices for special education students.  And, #61, the passage of what is called “Burt’s Law” to decrease sexual assault in congregate living in North Carolina.
